Putin offers to buy Kraft new ring

Wow! When did the Patriots become the Jets in terms of distractions and odd situations?

After being a model of NFL success, New England is suddenly overrun with stories bringing unwanted attention to the franchise the past couple of weeks.

We interrupt the Aaron Hernandez situation long enough to revisit last week's flap where Patriots owner Robert Kraft suggested in a speech that Russian president Vladimir Putin pocketed his 2005 Super Bowl ring without his permission.

After the Patriots played off the matter that made national and international headlines as a humorous anecdote on Kraft's part, Putin now has offered to buy Kraft a duplicate Super Bowl ring if he wants one.

“If it is such a big treasure for Mr. Kraft and the team . . . I have a suggestion," Putin said at the St. Petersburg Economic Forum via Tom Curran of CSSNE.com. "I will ask a jewelry firm to make a really good and big thing, so everyone will see it is a luxury piece, made of quality metal and with a stone, so this piece will be passed from generation to generation in the team whose interests are represented by Mr. Kraft.

"This would be the smartest solution partners can ever achieve while tackling such a complicated international problem," he said.

The most interesting part of that is that Putin referred to the situation as an "international problem."

There were reports that Patriots coach Bill Belichick was vacationing in Europe, so perhaps he can just stop off at the Kremlin and pick up the replacement ring for Kraft once it is finished.
