Raiders OC says Palmer to start 'as long as he's breathing'

Oakland Raiders offensive coordinator Al Saunders suggested to a Bay Area radio station on Wednesday that newly acquired quarterback Carson Palmer would get the start this Sunday against Kansas City "as long as he's breathing."

Palmer's competition is Kyle Boller, who finished Sunday's win over Cleveland after Jason Campbell suffered a broken collarbone. On Tuesday, the Raiders then traded for Palmer, who opted to retire rather than report to the Cincinnati Bengals.

Palmer has a familiarity with the Raiders offense since Oakland coach Hue Jackson was formerly with the Bengals while Palmer was there.

Still, it will be interesting to see just how quickly Palmer picks things up this week with the offense and timing with his receivers.
