Raiders sign second-rounder Mario Edwards Jr.
The Oakland Raiders signed second-round defensive lineman Mario Edwards Jr.
Edwards ran the 40-yard dash in 4.84 seconds at the NFL scouting combine where he also bench pressed 225 pounds 32 times and had a 32.5-inch vertical leap.
He had 89 career tackles, eight sacks and 23 tackles for losses.
Edwards drew praise for his performance at the Seminoles' Pro Day workout.
The 6-foot-3, 279-pounder has 33 1/4 arms and 10 7/8 hands.
He started 13 games last season and was named first-team All-Atlantic Coast Conference. He missed one game following a concussion. He had 44 tackles and three sacks.
He was third-team all-conference in 2013 when he missed two games with a hand injury. He had 3.5 sacks that season.
Edwards was the only true freshman to start on defense in 2012, replacing Tank Carradine.
Edwards was the top-ranked high school prospect in high school.
