Rams balancing injuries on offensive line already
As much as they hoped to stabilize the offensive line this season, that is not happening for the St. Louis Rams.
Not right now, anyway.
New center Scott Wells will be out until at least Week 8 as he suffered a fractured foot. The Rams placed him on injured reserve and used the new designation, allowing him to return during the season. Wells will require surgery. According to the rules, Wells can return to practice as soon as Week 6 and play in Week 8. But it’s too early to pinpoint a specific timetable for the veteran. Rams coach Jeff Fisher said it is about a six-week recovery, according to Jim Thomas of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
Wells isn’t the only concerning situation. Left tackle Rodger Saffold suffered a neck injury that landed him in a Detroit hospital following Sunday’s loss to the Lions. He returned to St. Louis Monday morning and all tests came back negative but his availability for the coming weeks is up in the air. He’s almost certain to rest this weekend.
