Rams could have complete overhaul at safety
The market was already crowded with veteran safeties and one more was added to the bunch as the St. Louis Rams have made the decision to release Quintin Mikell.
As Jim Thomas of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports, the strong safety was one of the team’s better defenders in 2012 when he was third on the team in tackles and added three sacks. Mikell was due to earn $6 million this season and the Rams will save $3 million under the cap by letting him go.
The 32-year-old Mikell will catch on somewhere but will have a hard time making the same kind of money. The Rams could have complete turnover at the safety position as Craig Dahl, the free safety, will be an unrestricted free agent on Tuesday. That puts the Rams in prime position to spend a higher draft pick on a safety next month.
