Rams grab RB Chauncey Washington from Jets

The St. Louis Rams have filled their need for a running back by signing Chauncey Washington off the practice squad of the New York Jets.

Bernie Miklasz of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports the move. Washington can help on special teams and could figure into the mix in the backfield behind Steven Jackson, who is dealing with a groin injury.

He’ll have to compete with Keith Toston and Kenneth Darby for a role as a reserve running back. Washington got good publicity this summer in HBO’s “Hard Knocks.” He’s bounced around since being drafted in the seventh round by the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2008, getting some time last season with the Dallas Cowboys.
