Rams run some wide receivers out the door
The St. Louis Rams were in desperate need for wide receivers last season.
The depth chart is young and needs some work, and today the team got rid of some young wideouts today in final cuts.
Bounced out the door were Donnie Avery and Mardy Gilyard, among other cuts. Avery was the first wide receiver selected in the 2008 draft and in his first two seasons (with suspect quarterback play) he combined for 100 receptions for 1,263 yards and eight touchdowns. But Avery suffered a torn ACL in his right knee during preseason last summer, and now he’s not going to play for new offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels.
Gilyard was hyped as a fourth-round draft pick a year ago but he had six receptions in 11 games and he was also waived.
The Rams also placed wide receiver Mark Clayton on the physically unable to perform list. That means he will not be available until Week 6 at the earliest.
