Rams send Wayne Hunter packing

The St. Louis Rams bailed on Jason Smith, the No. 2 pick overall in the 2009 draft, when they traded him to the New York Jets in August.

Now, they’ve bailed on the man they got in exchange for Smith. The Rams have released offensive tackle Wayne Hunter, according to Jim Thomas of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

The move is expected to create $4 million in cap savings for the club, according to the report. Hunter played in 14 games for the Rams in 2012 and started four games at left tackle when Rodger Saffold was injured.

The Rams need to find help to stabilize their offensive line after busting on picks like Smith and they have to outfit quarterback Sam Bradford with a better cast of wide receivers.
