Rams taking a look at Jerome Simpson
No one has been doing flips to sign Jerome Simpson in free agency.
That’s because the wide receiver, who scored a touchdown with a front flip over Arizona Cardinals linebacker Daryl Washington on Dec. 24, is scheduled to be sentenced Thursday in Covington, Ky., on marijuana possession charges.
But before he heads to court he went to St. Louis for a visit with the Rams. Simpson, who had 50 receptions for 725 yards and four touchdowns in a breakout 2011 season, could be suspended by the NFL. But at some point he will probably be eligible in 2012 and the Rams are taking a look, according to Jim Thomas of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
The 6-2, 190-pound Simpson can be a quality addition for the Rams if he can produce like he did last season and avoid more off-field troubles. The Rams are also kicking the tires on Jerricho Cotchery, who spent last season with the Pittsburgh Steelers and knows offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer from his days with the New York Jets.
