Ravens' priorities: Signing Rice, Flacco

At the Baltimore Ravens' season press conference, the team made it clear that it wants to re-sign running back Ray Rice, who can become a free agent.

The Ravens also would like to extend the contract of quarterback Joe Flacco, who is heading into the final season of his rookie deal in 2012.

“We would like to have a deal done with Ray before we get have to put the tag on him,” General Manager Ozzie Newsome said Wednesday.

That means the franchise tag is certainly in play as an option on Rice, even if the Ravens prefer not to apply it.

As for Flacco, it sounds as if the Ravens want to go ahead and work something out for him sooner rather than later, so his contract situation doesn't drag through the season and into 2013.

Ray and Joe Flacco will be part of this football team next year, guaranteed.” Ravens owner Steve Bisciotti said.
