Ravens sign QB Painter

The Baltimore Ravens have found their backup quarterback, signing former Indianapolis Colt Curtis Painter on Thursday.

Painter has spent much of his career backing up Peyton Manning in Indianapolis, then presided over a portion of the team's train wreck in 2011 with Manning missing the entire season.

Painter got the nod over former Raven Kyle Boller and ex-Steeler Dennis Dixon, both of whom auditioned in Baltimore on Thursday. He will be the Raven's "traditional-style" backup to Joe Flacco, while Tyrod Taylor will continue to be developed and may be used some some Wildcat formations as well.

Painter, a sixth-round pick of the Colts in 2009, has completed 140 of 271 passes in his career for 1,624 yards, six touchdowns and 11 interceptions.
