Ravens trade Haloti Ngata to Lions

The Detroit Lions replaced defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh by trading for Baltimore Ravens five-time Pro Bowl defensive tackle Haloti Ngata. Ngata will play nose tackle for the Lions. The Ravens got fourth-round and fifth-round picks in exchange for Ngata and a seventh-round pick. "Haloti is a great player but an even better person," Baltimore coach John Harbaugh said. "He has been an anchor of our success for many years. We appreciate everything he has done for our organization and the Baltimore community. We wish he and his family nothing but the best." Ngata had 32 tackles, two sacks and two interceptions last season. Ngata was traded after reaching a stalemate in contract talks with the Ravens. The Ravens created $8.5 million in salary-cap room by trading for Ngata. He had a $16 million salary cap figure with the Ravens. "Haloti has been an outstanding player for us for many years," Ravens general manager Ozzie Newsome said. "He consistently showed tremendous leadership in our locker room and on the field. At times, he was one of the NFL's most dominant players." Follow me on Twitter: @RavensInsider Aaron Wilson covers the Ravens for The Baltimore Sun
