Redskins act quickly to add Billy Cundiff

Graham Gano won the kicking competition in Washington with Neil Rackers.

But Gano won’t be kicking for the Redskins this season. Washington moved swiftly to bring in Billy Cundiff as the veteran will only have to make a short move down I-95.

Adam Schefter of ESPN reported the Redskins will sign Cundiff, who was cut loose by the Baltimore Ravens as they chose to go with Justin Tucker after a long training camp battle. Cundiff, of course, missed a 32-yard field goal in the AFC Championship Game last season that could have helped the Ravens to the Super Bowl. It would have tied the game with the New England Patriots in the final seconds of overtime.

Cundiff, who has an extremely strong leg on kickoffs, has made 53 of 59 field-goal tries inside 50 yards over the last two seasons and was 12 of 13 in the postseason with just the one miss – a very costly iss. The Ravens had signed Cundiff to a $15 million, five-year contract a year-and-a-half ago.
