Redskins concerned about playing field after Army-Navy game

For the first time in the 112-game history of the Army-Navy rivalry, the game will be played in the Washington, D.C., area.

That has created some concern for the Washington Redskins, who host the New England Patriots at FedEx Field on Sunday, less than 24 hours after the college football game at the stadium. It will give the grounds crew only a short period of time to prepare the surface.

As Barry Svrluga of the Washington Post notes, it’s a good thing there is no rain in the forecast for this weekend. Still, after Maryland and Notre Dame played at FedEx Field last month when the Redskins were out of town for the weekend, the playing surface was “in poor shape” the next week when the Dallas Cowboys came to Landover, Md., for a game.

“I’m not sure how much time there is (to repair the field),” Redskins coach Mike Shanahan said. “We’re just keeping our fingers crossed.”
