Redskins sign WR Mike Furrey
The Over The Hill Gang Part II added another aging wide receiver to the mix today as the Washington Redskins signed wide receiver Mike Furrey.
The 33-year-old has played seven seasons in the NFL but really hasn’t done anything exceptional since 2006 when he made 98 receptions for 1,086 yards playing in Mike Martz’s offense with the Detroit Lions. He also caught six touchdown passes that season. Furrey followed it up with 61 receptions for 664 yards in 2007 with the Lions.
The veteran spent last season with the Cleveland Browns. He played in 16 games and made four starts and got time at wide receiver and safety. He made 23 catches for 170 yards.
Furrey joins a veteran group of wide receivers that already got older this offseason when Joey Galloway and Bobby Wade were signed.
The Redskins also announced that linebacker Alvin Bowen, defensive lineman Antoine Holmes, cornerback Marcus McCauley and tight end Sean Ryan have been released.
