Redskins to honor Richie Petitbon in Ring of Fame

The Washington Redskins will induct former safety, head coach and defensive coordinator Richie Petitbon into the team’s Ring of Fame before the Dec. 24 game at FedEx Field against the Minnesota Vikings.

Petitbon was a safety on the “Over the Hill Gang” Redskins that reached Super Bowl VII. Prior to that, he was a standout for the Chicago Bears and a four-time Pro Bowl performer. He is one of only three Redskins to have participated in all five of the team’s Super Bowl appearances.

Petitbon became an assistant coach with the team in 1978 and was the only coach Joe Gibbs retained when he took over the club in 1981. He served as defensive coordinator from 1981 through 1992 and Petitbon was head coach in 1993 for one season.
