Rematch awaits 49ers against Seahawks in NFC championship

The San Francisco 49ers have earned a rematch against the Seattle Seahawks in the NFC championship game.

The 49ers defeated the Carolina Panthers, 23-10, to reach the NFC title game for the third year in a row as quarterback Colin Kaepernick completed 15 of 28 passes for 196 yards with one touchdown pass and a touchdown run.

Anquan Boldin had eight catches for 136 yards and Frank Gore ran for 84 yards on 17 carries heading into a game against the Seahawks after splitting the season series with Seattle this season.

"I think we're the two teams that everybody was looking at from the beginning," Kaepernick said. "It's going to be a knockdown, drag-out game."

The 49ers' defense intercepted Cam Newton twice and sacked him five times.

"Terrible ending to a great season," Newton said.
