Report: 49ers nearing long-term deal for Ahmad Brooks

The San Francisco 49ers have a small handful of key players they need to re-sign and apparently some progress is being made.

Jason La Canfora of NFL Network reports the team is close to having a deal finalized with linebacker Ahmad Brooks. Brooks is expected to receive about $7 million annually in a five-year deal. He had seven sacks and 50 tackles last season.

The 49ers still need to strike a deal with quarterback Alex Smith. La Canfora indicates a contract for Brooks could set San Francisco up to use the franchise tag on cornerback Carlos Rogers, who is also seeking a long-term contract. Stay tuned.
