Report: 49ers will tag Dashon Goldson today
The San Francisco 49ers are expected to put their franchise tag in play today with safety Dashon Goldson.
Matt Barrows of the Sacramento Bee reports that designation is expected to be announced sometime today. Goldson would receive about $6.2 million to play this season unless the sides work out a long-term agreement.
Goldson and ex-agent Drew Rosenhaus rejected a $25 million, five-year contract offer last summer, according to the report. Eventually, the veteran returned with a one-year deal. Now, his new agency CAA can work on a deal after he has been tagged.
Per Barrows, Goldson is coming off his finest season and that should help him in his bid for a big deal. This means cornerback Carlos Rogers will not be tagged but the club is still working to sign him to a long-term deal.
