Report: Brandon Banks, friend could have instigated fight

Washington Redskins return man Brandon Banks and his friend may be the ones who instigated the fight that led to both of them being hospitalized with knife wounds.

NBC Washington reports that Banks and his accomplice Christopher Nixon appear to start the fight with Jason Shorter outside The Park, a D.C. night club at about 3 a.m. Saturday. Per the report, video shows Nixon throwing a punch after Shorter “allegedly pulled a knife from his pocket” and armed himself. How Nixon starts a fight after Shorter had armed himself could make for an interesting debate, but that is what the report indicates.

A bounce stepped into the fray and Shorter attacked Nixon with the knife. Banks and Nixon were repeatedly stabbed in the incident, according to surveillance video. Banks remains hospitalized for precautionary reasons and is likely to be released today. Nixon is more seriously injured with wounds to his face and upper body.

Shorter has been charged with assault with a deadly weapon. Banks and Nixon could face charges if it’s determined they instigated the melee.
