Report: Broken arm will sideline Steve Smith 10 weeks

If doctors are on the money when it comes to Steve Smith’s broken left forearm, he will be ready to return to action in time for the season opener for the Carolina Panthers.

That is the good news. The bad news is that he’ll be sidelined for all of training camp and most likely the entire preseason, meaning he will not be able to work with young quarterback Matt Moore or be able to do a lot with the unproven cast of wide receivers the Panthers have after Smith.

Doctors have told Smith he will be sidelined 10 weeks, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, after he underwent surgery Sunday to insert a plate and two screws in his arm to help it heal. Smith broke the same arm in Week 16 last season and he was injured Sunday in an adult flag football game.
