Report: Browns tried to trade for Kirk Cousins
Washington Redskins quarterback Kirk Cousins still remains one of the NFL's top backups.
A player with starting ability, Cousins may have to sit behind Robert Griffin III once again. According to a report from CBSSports.com, the Cleveland Browns approached the Redskins about trading Cousins for a fourth-round draft pick prior to the 2014 NFL draft.
Ultimately, the Redskins denied it, with general manager Bruce Allen the reason why.
Cousins, entering his third season out of Michigan State, has thrown for 1,320 yards, eight touchdowns and 10 interceptions in the previous two seasons. Being paired with Kyle Shanahan once again in Cleveland could have been beneficial.
Instead, he'll stay a backup in Washington, and Cleveland will look for Johnny Manziel to be its quarterback of the future.
