Report: Bucs hire Van Pelt to coach quarterbacks

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers chose a guy with experience playing in the league when they tabbed Alex Van Pelt to be their quarterbacks coach.

Van Pelt joins Raheem Morris’ staff and will be working closely with offensive coordinator Greg Olson to develop young quarterback Josh Freeman. Van Pelt was picked over ex-Bears quarterbacks coach Pep Hamilton and former New York Jets assistant Joe DeFilippo, according to a league source.

Like Olson, Van Pelt was promoted to be an offensive coordinator just before the start of last season. The Buffalo Bills bumped him up just like Olson was put in a new role. Van Pelt spent 10 seasons as a player in Buffalo.
