Report: Bucs will tender Penn at highest level
There is a lot of work to be done on offense in Tampa Bay. The Buccaneers are expected to bid goodbye to top wide receiver Antonio Bryant, who played under the franchise tag last season. They’re not going to allow one of their young building blocks for the future depart, however.
Left tackle Donald Penn will be tendered at the highest level for restricted free agents, according to Jason La Canfora of the NFL Network. That makes it highly unlikely Penn, who would have been an unrestricted free agent if it wasn’t for the labor showdown, will have a chance to depart. It gives the Bucs the opportunity to work on a long-term solution also. Of course, as La Canfora points out, Tampa has been super tight with its cash over the last few years.
Keeping Penn is a smart move. They need to build a formidable line in front of quarterback Josh Freeman and have some nice pieces in place already, including center Jeff Faine.
