Report: Campbell expected to sign RFA tender
Washington Redskins quarterback Jason Campbell is expected to take the next step toward becoming an ex-Redskin. He’s going to sign the restricted free agent tender he received from the club with the hopes that will put a trade in motion.
Campbell will sign his tender for $3.14 million by Monday at the latest, according to Jason Reid of the Washington Post. Of course, the deadline for RFA’s to sign offer sheets with other teams is Thursday, so he’s not getting much of a jump on the action.
It remains to be seen if the Redskins will be able to move Campbell. The RFA tender is not guaranteed. It’s unknown if any team would want to pay him more than $3 million this season. It could be the Redskins will wind up having to release Campbell. Certainly after trading for Donovan McNabb they probably do not want the Campbell situation to play out too long. They could always keep him as a backup to McNabb, but that’s unlikely given the club already granted him permission to seek a trade.
