Report: Cardinals expected to bring back QB St. Pierre

The Arizona Cardinals cannot say right now whether or not Matt Leinart will be able to nail down the starting job that is waiting for him now that the deck has finally been cleared and Kurt Warner retired.

Soon, they should be able to tell you who the No. 3 quarterback in town will be. Kent Somers of the Arizona Republic reports that Brian St. Pierre will travel to town soon and likely sign a contract to return with the team sometime next week.

St. Pierre and Leinart waged a competition to be Warner’s backup this past season. Back issues plagued St. Pierre, but the report states that he has a new exercise program that is expected to alleviate the problem.

Derek Anderson was signed as a veteran to add to the mix. If Leinart slips up, he could quickly step in as the starter in an effort to re-start his career outside of Cleveland. St. Pierre is a veteran presence himself and knows the offense even if he lacks tangible NFL experience.
