Report: Chester Pitts will visit Seattle
The Chester Pitts NFL Tour continues.
Next stop: Seattle.
The veteran guard will check out the Seahawks, according to the Twitter account of Matt Barrow of the Sacramento Bee, making them the fourth team to have known interest in him. Pitts just wrapped up a visit with the San Francisco 49ers and has already been to Detroit while also gaining interest from his former team, Houston.
Pitts, 30, is coming off microfracture knee surgery following an injury in Week 2 last season, but he’s among the best available interior linemen in a thin free-agent market. Pitts has reportedly said he’ll be ready to go by the time training camps get underway.
The Seahawks have one thing going for them. Line coach Alex Gibbs was in Houston with Pitts and the blocking scheme figures to be similar. Seattle, which had all sorts of problems on the line last season and may look for a tackle early in the draft, needs to replace left guard Rob Sims.
Of course, at some point Pitts will have to make a decision. When a player makes this many visits, sometimes he’s doing so to drive up the market. Stay tuned.
