Report: Cornerback Stanford Routt to visit Lions

Will the third time be the charm this season for Stanford Routt?

The veteran cornerback, waived at the start of the week by the Kansas City Chiefs, will visit the Detroit Lions today, according to Adam Caplan.

Routt was cut loose by the Oakland Raiders in February and then joined the Chiefs where he was supposed to mitigate the loss of Brandon Carr in free agency. That didn’t work so well when the Chiefs decided to dump him.

The Lions have well-known issues throughout their secondary and Routt would add experience and size to a team hoping to climb into the playoff race despite a difficult schedule in the second half of the season.

But Routt will collect $11 million this season from his former employers whether he plays another down in 2012 or not.
