Report: Deuce Lutui might not sign tender until June 15
Even after signing Alan Faneca, the Arizona Cardinals wouldn’t seem inclined to drop a deuce, or get rid of veteran guard Deuce Lutui.
It’s hard to come by experienced depth in the NFL and with Faneca projected to start, Lutui could provide just that. Problem is Lutui has yet to sign his tender as a restricted free agent. He wasn’t there when the Cardinals conducted minicamp and now Darren Urban, who writes for the team’s Web site, speculates that Lutui will remain unsigned until the June 15 deadline when the club can reduce the value of his tender.
Lutui was tendered at the second-round level for $1.759 million. If his holdouts goes beyond mid-June, the team could reduce his tender to less than $600,000 and control his rights. Lutui, like most restricted free agents, is trolling for a longterm contract. That’s not going to come from the Cardinals, but returning to them is about the only choice he has.
