Report: Dolphins GM Ireland is safe

With the Dolphins having won three of their past four games to improve to 7-6 and remain in the hunt for the final playoff spot in the AFC, The Miami Herald reported Sunday that General Manager Jeff Ireland has been told that his job is safe even in the aftermath of the investigation into bullying and workplace harassment within the team.

Herald columnist Armando Salguero reported after the team’s victory over Pittsburgh on Sunday that, “According to an NFL source, (Ireland) has received assurances from Ross that his job is safe.”

A full report from NFL investigator Ted Wells is due to be released before the end of the season. In the initial days of the investigation of what happened between offensive linemen Jonathan Martin and Richie Incognito, it appeared that Ireland’s job was in danger. Ross issued a statement on Nov. 11 prior to the team losing at Tampa Bay in which he never mentioned Ireland by name, but spoke highly of coach Joe Philbin.

That led to widespread speculation that Ireland’s job was in trouble. At one point, Ireland had told Martin to stand up to Incognito by “punching” him, a source said. As the team has rallied, anger over the incident has subsided. Serious questions remain about Incognito’s conduct with Mar-tin and other employees.
