Report: Favre told team officials he is not returning
Brett Favre is retiring for the third time.
The future Hall of Fame quarterback began informing officials with the Minnesota Vikings on Monday night that he will not return for a 20th season in the NFL and a second with the NFC North club.
Judd Zulgad of the Minneapolis Star Tribune has the details on his Twitter account. Favre has said that his surgically repaired ankle has not responded the way he would like it to in treatments.
But it’s Aug. 3 and the Vikings don’t begin the season until four weeks from Thursday. That means there is an awful lot of time for the club to persuade him to change his mind or for his ankle to improve. Zulgad indicates that the Vikings could sweeten the pot for him and offer more than the $13 million that he is currently contracted for in 2010. The guess here is money isn’t going to sway Favre. He will reportedly issue a press release later today.
Could he actually remain retired this time, folks?
