Report: Five teams interested in Osi Umenyiora
Five teams have interest in acquiring Osi Umenyiora but right now it’s unlikely any one of them steps up and puts the first-round draft pick on the table that the New York Giants are demanding in trade.<p> According to Ralph Vacchiano of the New York Daily News, it didn’t take long for the agent for Umenyiora to drum up a little interest in the defensive end. But interest and a deal are two vastly different things here. The five clubs? Per the report, the Baltimore Ravens, Denver Broncos, St. Louis Rams, San Diego Chargers and Seattle Seahawks have all expressed interest.
Umenyiora has two years remaining on his contract at a total $7 million and is adamant he wants a new deal from the Giants or a trade (and a new deal). Vacchiano suggests the Giants might have to lower their demand to a second rounder to get a deal done, or perhaps a second and a later pick.
Scuttlebutt is that Umenyiora will not play for the Giants without a new contract. So, this story isn’t going to end any time soon.
