Report: Four-year contract for Pierre Thomas
The New Orleans Saints got some deadline business done as the team has signed running back Pierre Thomas to a new contract.
According to Brian Allee-Walsh of NewOrleans.com, coach Sean Payton confirmed that Thomas has signed a four-year extension.
That’s big news for the Saints, who missed Thomas badly this past season as a serious ankle injury wiped out about half of the year for him. Thomas was a catalyst in the team’s run to Super Bowl XLIV, and without a running game to speak of, the offense simply wasn’t as powerful in 2010 when the Saints still won 11 games in trying to defend their title.
Pairing Thomas with Chris Ivory this coming season will give quarterback Drew Brees a strong ground game to rely on and should strengthen the offense.
