Report: Gabbert to make first start for Jags
The Luke McCown Era in Jacksonville was apparently short and bittersweet.
According to the Jacksonville Times-Union's Tania Ganguli, rookie Blaine Gabbert will make his first start when the Jaguars take on fellow rookie Cam Newton and the Carolina Panthers.
Newton has put up big numbers for the Panthers, who are 0-2, despite two 400-yard games from the rookie QB. So maybe the Jaguars are hoping Gabbert, the 10th overall pick last April, can provide a spark for them.
Whether that happens or not, McCown's run ended rather quickly and without much margin for error for the journeyman career backup, who won the job when David Garard was released right before the season opener. McCown played well in the season-opening win over Tennessee, but was picked off four times in a 32-3 shellacking by the New York Jets Sunday.
