Report: Gerald Hayes recovering from back surgery
The Arizona Cardinals are facing some depth issues at linebacker this season and the situation may have become acute with the news that inside linebacker Gerald Hayes underwent back surgery and will not be ready to participate when the team reports to training camp next week in Flagstaff, Ariz.
Hayes underwent surgery earlier this summer, according to Kent Somers of the Arizona Republic, and had been bothered by a bulging disc since last season. Apparently Hayes and the Cardinals believed rest would help the issue because otherwise they wouldn’t have waited until so late in the offseason to elect surgery.
Coach Ken Whisenhunt said the team would determine the rehab protocol for Hayes when it gets to camp. Arizona lost top linebacker Karlos Dansby in free agency and have filled his spot with well-traveled veteran Paris Lenon. Stay tuned.
