Report: Giants, Tom Coughlin will talk extension soon

Soon, Tom Coughlin and New York Giants owner John Mara will sit down and work their way through a contract extension.

The Super Bowl-winning coach is signed through the 2012 season but he is in line for a new deal and is certainly very deserving after winning his second championship with the franchise.

We haven’t talked seriously," Coughlin said, according to Jenny Vrentas of the Newark Star-Ledger.

Coughlin quipped a 15-year extension is under consideration. The 65-year-old said during the season that he could coach into his 70’s. The Giants could very well want to keep him in place into his 70’s.

In the meantime, he needs to turn his attention to filling his coaching staff as quarterbacks coach Mike Sullivan departed to become the offensive coordinator of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and assistant offensive line coach Jack Bicknell Jr. took off to become the line coach of the Kansas City Chiefs.
