Report: Giants will not deal Umenyiora
The New York Giants will not be peddling pass rusher Osi Umenyiora this week, according to Ralph Vacchiano of the New York Daily News.
Umenyiora has made no secret of the fact that he’s not happy in his current role after losing his starting job last season to Mathias Kiwanuka. In fact, Umenyiora has said he will retire if he doesn’t get his starting gig back. And pass up that money? Sure.
While all of this might make Umenyiora seem like a perfect candidate to be shipped out, Vacchiano reports that isn’t happening. The hope is that two years after reconstructive knee surgery, Umenyiora will be ready to flourish in the new defense being run by Perry Fewell.
The other issue, as the report states, is that Umenyiora is on the hook for only a little more than $10 million over the next three seasons. That is a bargain for a pass rusher and if he regains his form, it’s a bargain the Giants can enjoy.
