Report: Haynesworth takes plea deal

Albert Haynesworth was scheduled to go to trial on Tuesday for misdemeanor sexual abuse on a cocktail waitress in Washington D.C.

Instead, Haynesworth entered a no contest plea to simple assault, according to a report from ESPN Boston.

The result of the plea means Haynesworth will avoid jail time, provided he completes 160 hours of community service, stays out of any further trouble and has no contact with the victim. The last of those three obstacles should be easiest for Haynesworth since he now plays in Foxboro, Mass., for the New England Patriots and no longer inside the Beltway.

The matter stemmed from allegations by the waitress that the defensive tackle, then with the Washington Redskins, had fondled her breast as he slipped his debit card inside her bra while paying for an $811 tab at a Washington nightclub on Feb. 13.

Haynesworth was traded to the Patriots just after the lockout ended, putting an end to a stormy two-year tenure in DC after he signed a seven-year, $100 million contract.
