Report: Haynesworth will play in opener

This is always going to be subject to change but for the time being it appears Albert Haynesworth will play Sunday night in the season opener against the Dallas Cowboys.

Jason Reid of the Washington Post reports the team plans to have the defensive lineman active for the game and he is expected to play. There’s been considerable speculation that Haynesworth might be benched to begin the season, especially in light of a poor effort in the preseason finale at Arizona.

Haynesworth and coach Mike Shanahan have had an icy relationship, even since the player finally showed up for training camp. This is going to be a volatile relationship but as Reid reports, this would indicate the Redskins believe they’re a better team with Haynesworth in the mix. As always, stay tuned.
