Report: Hines Ward may retire

Hines Ward could be contemplating retirement, says Mike Freeman of

While Ward probably would have liked a more favorable ending than the Tim Tebow pass in overtime that snuffed out the Steelers' season, it makes sense in a lot of ways for the veteran receiver to hang it up now.

Ward has inched down the depth chart this season for the Steelers, as young receivers like Mike Wallace, Emmanuel Sanders and Antonio Brown have made a heavy impact in Pittsburgh.

Plus, Ward was able to reach a special personal milestone, becoming only the eighth player in NFL history to reach 1000 career receptions, standing at 1,000 on the nose currently. That, plus being a part of championship teams in Pittsburgh would probably have Canton calling on Ward after he retires.
