Report: Jason Pierre-Paul having index finger amputated

New York Giants defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul is having his right index finger amputated today after suffering extensive damage to his hand in a fireworks accident, according to ESPN. ESPN posted a copy of Pierre-Paul's medical chart. Per the report, Pierre-Paul still has a chance to play again this year.
Pierre-Paul suffered extensive burn damage in the accident on July 4.
Although team officials, including former Giants linebacker Jesse Armstead and head trainer Ronnie Barnes, went to South Florida to visit Pierre-Paul, they were unable to see him.
Pierre-Paul, 26, had 12 1/2 sacks last season.
Pierre-Paul hasn't signed his $14.8 million franchise tender.
