Report: Jon Beason has foot fracture
The New York Giants faced a scary moment when linebacker Jon Beason was carted off the practice field during Thursday's organized team activities practice.
But as NFL Network's Kimberly Jones reports, Beason could be back for the regular-season opener. Beason reportedly sustained a sesamoid fracture in his foot which will require surgery. The time for the injury to heal will be an estimated 12 weeks, according to Jones' story.
That would put Beason's estimated recovery around the first week of September, with the NFL's Week 1 on Sept. 7. It's definitely not guaranteed that Beason would be ready for the season-opener, but it sure beats the notion of potentially being lost for the season.
If the Giants feel that Beason needs some time to get a feel for returning to the defense once he's cleared, there's the chance of keeping him on the physically unable to perform list, where he'll most likely begin training camp on. If so, he'd miss the first six weeks of the season.
