Report: Lito Sheppard visiting Lions
Lito Sheppard is in search of his third team in three seasons and has a visit lined up.
He will visit the Detroit Lions today and Thursday, according to Pro Football Talk, and it seems like a good destination for the veteran cornerback as the Lions are in need of experienced players in the secondary.
But it remains to be seen if Detroit – or anyone else – will make a move on a free agent with the draft just a little more than a week away. At this point, most clubs are going to attempt to fill their needs through the draft and then they will re-evaluate where they are and consider the secondary free-agent market.
Sheppard was benched by the New York Jets last season after being traded from the Philadelphia Eagles. It was essentially a one-year deal he was playing under because his contract called for the Jets to pay him a $10 million roster bonus this season, and no one could have expected that money to be paid out.
Now, Sheppard will get a look at the Lions. Maybe something happens quickly or maybe the team is kicking the tires on him to get a feel for where he is at so the Lions can act quickly after the draft in the event cornerback remains a need.
