Report: Manning would have interest in Texans
Peyton Manning would have an interest in playing for the Houston Texans if and when he is released by the Indianapolis Colts, according to a report out of Houston.
Bob Allen of KTRK-TV in Houston says through a family friend of the Mannings that Peyton wants to play for a Super Bowl contender, and the Texans would certainly fit that bill, given that they reached the postseason this year while finishing the campaign with a third-string rookie.
Of course, there is the matter of what to do with current quarterback Matt Schaub, who finished 2011 on injured reserve with a lis franc injury in his foot.
Allen admits in the report that landing Manning could be a long shot for the Texans, but reiterates that the club is on the list of teams Manning would have interest in.
UPDATE: John McClain of the Houston Chronicle completely scuttled the Allen report on Tuesday, citing among other things Manning's own health concerns and the fact that the Texans would have to retool their entire offense to accommodate Manning. Of course, that is probaby true of virtually any team that would sign Manning, given he has operated in the "check with me" system he helped create and foster in Indy for so long.
