Report: NaVorro Bowman may not play this year
Somehow and some way, 49ers linebacker NaVorro Bowman held on to the football as Seahawks Jermaine Kearse was landing awkwardly on his knee, with both players falling to the ground.
Bowman had just stripped Kearse of the ball before his knee injury. Experiencing a lot of pain after the initial contact to his knee, Bowman never let go of the football, being a perfect example of taking one for the team.
However, that injury may have cost him the entire 2014 regular season as a result. According to a report from ESPN.com's Adam Schefter, there's a "real possibility" that Bowman will miss the entire year.
That would be a huge blow to the 49ers' defense, which just saw linebacker Patrick Willis head to injured reserve with a toe injury. However, despite injuries and off-the-field drama, the 49ers still rank third in total defense, giving up an average of 306.4 yards per game.
Some knee injuries take longer than others to properly heal. It may be in Bowman's best interest to sit this season so that he can come back strong for the 2015 season.
