Report: Nick Fairley in first stage NFL drug program

Nick Fairley is in a first-step substance-abuse program with the NFL following his arrest last month on a charge of misdemeanor possession of marijuana.

Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press reports that Fairley’s attorney told the judge in Mobile, Ala., that Fairley has passed a drug test since his arrest. Fairley’s arraignment was adjourned on Monday to give the attorney more time to review the case. Fairley’s next hearing will be July 31.

Fairley is one of three Lions’ draft picks from 2011 to be arrested this offseason on marijuana charges. Running back Mikel Leshoure got the double whammy – he was arrested twice. Potential discipline from the NFL, of course, is pending.
