Report: Osi Umenyiora granted permission to seek trade
Apparently the sitdown that Osi Umenyiora had with Jerry Reese didn’t cover quite the ground the New York Giants were hoping it would.
The organization has granted Umenyiora permission to seek a trade, according to an ESPN report, meaning the team could be losing its best pass rusher shortly.
Umenyiora has been adamant that Reese failed to deliver on a promise of a new contract, and that is how he became involved in the Tom Brady lawsuit vs. the NFL. A trade would be a way for Umenyiora to get the new paper he’s been seeking. With permission, his agent Tony Agnone can now shop for a new contract.
Per the report, the Giants will seek a first-round draft pick in return. That’s a high price to pay. Agnone has worked out high-pressure situations with the Giants previously involving Michael Strahan. This one looks like it will end in divorce although Umenyiora is expected to remain in camp for the time being.
