Report: Panthers will dump Delhomme
The man who once led the Carolina Panthers to the Super Bowl is being let go.
The organization talked about setting up a competition this spring for the starting job between Jake Delhomme and Matt Moore and that won’t happen now. Well, Delhomme will not be a part of a competition there, anyway. Not after the Panthers made the decision to release the veteran quarterback, news first reported by Jay Glazer of Fox Sports.
That means the job will likely belong to Moore, who was tendered at the highest possible level of a first- and third-round draft pick, meaning he will earn a little more than $3 million this season.
According to the report, the 35-year-old Delhomme will be released as soon as today. He struggled last season, throwing eight touchdowns and 18 interceptions with a passer rating of 59.4.
