Report: Panthers will tag center Ryan Kalil

Ryan Kalil is it.

The Carolina Panthers are expected to place the franchise tag on their veteran center today, according to Darin Gantt of the Charlotte Observer.

The Panthers had three players to choose from and are apparently going with the man at the middle of the line, arguably the strength of the team that Ron Rivera inherited.

That means the team will now need to work to prevent running back DeAngelo Williams and defensive end Charles Johnson from exiting in free agency. That will require owner Jerry Richardson to spend some money and he’s already locked into doing that with the No. 1 pick in the draft. We’ll see how this plays out.
