Report: Payton reimbursed $250,000

Now this is the way to lure top help.

Promise them a Brinks truck full of additional pay, then have the man at the top foot the bill.

Apparently, that is what happened with the New Orleans Saints and Gregg Williams, who in his first season as defensive coordinator after coming over from the Jacksonville Jaguars has made quite an impact. If you recall, a small detail slipped out after Williams was hired that Payton, desperate to bring in Williams to revamp the defense, upped the ante. The team couldn’t pay Williams any more money, but Payton offered him $250,000 from his own salary to close the deal.

Ed Werder of ESPN reported this morning that Payton got the money back. From the Saints. The team reimbursed Payton for the $250,000 in Week 9, when the Saints were still undefeated, meaning the club bucked up for Williams after all.

Everyone comes out a winner there, especially Payton. How about that?
